In the meadow the sheep graze in their pretty, white sweaters. In the pond, the pigs lie. They are rolling through the mud. Then suddenly there is a little lamb in the mud. The sheep and the pigs think this is strange. 'I am a piglet,' the lamb says. Isn't that strange? Or is it?
Reviews:
'Word and image complement each other beautifully. A nuanced picture book that addresses a topic such as transgender people without being preachy is a breath of fresh air.' (De Standaard der Letteren, March 2017)
'The lamb that is a piglet is a layered and highly successful picture book with an ageless message: be who you are and give another person space to be who he (or she) is.' (Kinderboekenpraatjes, March 2017)
'Sweet, colorful, and natural. The lamb that is a piglet is a ht.' (Zizo online, March 2017)
'An extraordinary book about gender, identity, and being yourself.' (Goed gevoel, March 2014)
'This book shows that it is not at all difficult to start the conversation with children on the subject of transgender. Ideal as a conversation opener in the classroom!' (queerbooks.co.uk, 2022)
'A beautiful, accessible and cheerful story about a lamb that knows exactly what his orientation is. The story is simply written, making it already a fine picture book for young children to discuss gender diversity. A conversation about being yourself, that everyone can be as they are and how they feel and be allowed to express this. The illustrations fit the story well, they are realistic and colorful and sometimes with a nod to the story. A blue tree, yellow grass or a pink sky.' (Down Up, September 2023)
